About the Editor
Welcome to the Cubicle at the End of the Galaxy. I’m Tom. Since 2014, I’ve been working on the editorial team at Del Rey / Random House Worlds, an imprint that’s part of Penguin Random House. In that time I’ve worked with all sorts of amazing authors and on books across the genre of science fiction/fantasy.
But my truest passion has been on crafting amazing stories for all sorts of great fictional worlds. Most folks would know me from my work on Star Wars books, but I’ve been lucky enough throughout my career to spend time editing books in all sorts of amazing worlds across video games, tv shows, movies, and more.
When I’m not doing any of that, you’ll likely find me in the kitchen, reorganizing my ever-growing board game collection, or simply trying to wrangle the two interns (cats) that I supervise.
About the Cubicle at the End of the Galaxy
My own little space to share insights on what it’s like to be a book editor, and specifically one for stories that are fake and (often) in space.
What Are You Going to Write About?
Behind-the-scenes stories, commentary on the books that I’ve worked on, and just about everything in between. There will also be anecdotes about life in publishing and deep dives about peculiar publishing traditions/history in general.
This is less a place to tell secrets that aren’t mine to tell, and more a place to help folks better understand how books get made, or why they are made the way they are.
If you ever enjoyed my Twitter Deep Dives on topics like first printings vs first editions, Star Wars timeline design, book cover art, or why books are different sizes, you’re in the right place.

I can’t promise yet what the cadence or regularity of the newsletter and posts will be, but I promise not to waste your time, or fill your inbox with nonsense. Maybe a cat photo now and then, which is the proper kind of nonsense.
